Courtyard Or Die.

frightrab

Alright, I’ll admit it – I get excited easily. Junk food elicits shrieks, lame jokes yield giggles and new episodes of shitty television shows makes me squeal. But, when it comes to going to see a concert, it takes a lot to get me pumped. That being said, I can relay with full confidence that I absolutely cannot wait to see Frightened Rabbit tomorrow.

These guys are downright great. Great. (Capital G, you know, to emphasize their true badassery.) And, well, if you miss this show, you will be making a big mistake. It’s unfortunate that the last night of The Great Cover Up is tomorrow, but take my word for it — this is a show you don’t want to miss. Their raw intensity in a live setting is so passionate that you’ll be right with me in wondering how the hell we got them booked on this campus, and what we did to get so lucky.

So, lets just hope all of you, the readers of this blog take well to fear mongering and show your faces at what will be one of best (if not the best) Courtyard show of the semester.

Don’t believe me? I’ve already seen them live. See what I had to say about it then.

Until tomorrow at 8pm at Courtyard, I’ll be dreaming of terrified bunnies and terrific tunes. I suggest you do the same.

The Late (Not So) Greats

Bad news — Jeff Tweedy’s 1/31 show is sold out. If you require easy access seating, there’s a handful left, but if you haven’t gotten them yet, they’re all gone. Dry those Tweedy Tears, though — World’s First Flying Machine, Sunset Stallion and Butterfly Assassins are playing at Canopy that night, so you’ll be able to fill your ears with good music that evening, regardless. (Thanks to Fender for the ticket update!)

The Republic Of…Wait, What?

New Year, new news. Such as… how you might not know that The Republic Tigers are playing Canopy Club on Thursday (1/15). Accidentally misspelled on the site and given second billing to Vanatica, the boys will be stopping by Urbana at a highly unfortunate time. Unfortunate for them, that a ton more people would be able to go one week later, and unfortunate for yours truly, who will be holed up in a mansion at Allerton for a leadership retreat, unable to hear the brilliantly catchy “Buildings and Mountains” live. The first band signed to Chop Shop records, ex-Star Course manager and music supervisor extraordinarre Alexandra Patsavas’ record label, there’s a reason these boys have been featured on a gamut of television shows, and it’s not just because of their sweet hookup. Enjoy their tunes…for me. And for yourself.

Goodbye, Hello

When doors close, other more helpful, easier to maintain ones open.  In order to focus time on posts and emphasize the site’s aim of providing concert reviews, The OverUC calendar is officially gone. (But, hey, Opening Bands’ was better anyway.)

Now, in lieu of it, there will be a Show List (as seen above), with concert listings that are slated to be reviewed. This way, you know what reviews are coming up, and what shows you should make sure to see.

See anything missing from the list? Drop me a line at overuc@gmail.com. Otherwise, look forward to a semester worth of phenomenal shows!

Hum, Sweet Hum

Did anyone go to Hum’s show in Chicago this past week? If so, let us know how it was in the comment section below!
