Christmas On Mars. Movie In Urbana.

Since by the end of the weekend we’re usually too lazy to even exit our apartments, here’s four reasons why you should see Christmas on Mars on Sunday:

1. Recession-friendly. As a “gourmet” cupcake shop pops up down the street from a chocolate outpost in Jennifer North and two blocks from high-rise condo living, downtown Champaign isn’t really hip to the poorness that is college folk. But, once you cross the quad-borderline, it’s clear that Urbana gets it. Not only is the flick FREE, Canopy is offering their fab $10 pitcher-and-a-pizza deal. Split it with a friend, and that pie-flick-booze combination is only five bucks. Cheap!

2. No excuses. You’re not going to do homework anyway. And hey, it’s one of your last chances to enjoy yourself before you’re stuck at home.

3. The band. Flaming Lips made a movie. A movie. They’re known for going crazy in a live setting, and by making a film, they had no boundaries, such as lights and an audience and a defined stage (which they pay no attention to anyway, considering lead singer Wayne Coyne floats through the crowd in an enormous bubble). It’s gotta be worth watching at least 20 minutes of, right?

4. The cast. Not into The Flaming Lips? Well how about Blue’s Clues, Entourage or SNL? Besides Coyne and various band members appearing in the film, Steve Burns (aka THE OLD BLUES CLUES HOST zomg), Adam Goldberg (of Hebrew Hammer and Medellin-funding fame) and Fred Armisen star in the film. Bomb.

Catch Christmas on Mars this Sunday at 9:30 and 11:30 at Canopy Club. It’s free. Cheap food and beer. See you there.
