[Pygmalion Music Festival: Wednesday Night at Canopy Club with Elsinore, Decibully and Times New Viking]

Elsinore:

Apparently, Mute Era canceled for reasons which I do not know (any help?), but it didn’t matter, considering how Canopy’s Void Room transformed from a place where smaller shows are usually played to a solid lineup, larger-than-usual crowd and a lot of hot air.
The AC was broken down at Canopy last night, but since the venue is always pretty steamy, so it didn’t seem too bad by the time I arrived to catch Elsinore’s 11:45pm set. I’m not sure when it happened, but with the new material and the drift away from folk/americana, Ryan Groff has kind of turned into a CU rock god, closing out the show with such frenzied guitar playing that he almost completely knocked over a mic stand.
I’ll say it now: not only will their new record solidify how successful they’re about to be, but for the band to be able to rock out on their songs, and then just over twelve hours later have their lead singer play the same tunes beautifully in a solo setting at a BBQ restaurant is the true mark of versatility and talent.
Decibully:

These guys are really, really good. It seemed like most of the crowd had a surprised buzz amongst themselves of how impressed they were. (Bonus points for one of the guys looking like Vincent Gallo.) Give them a listen.
Times New Viking:
There was a bit of a sound problem which led to a late start:

But once the cord was fixed, peoples hands shot up in the air and then probably quickly covered their ears, because this trio was loud. Regardless, Times New Viking was a great start to the weekend, and the first of what will be many reasons to stay out too late.

I think that Mute Era were supposed to play, not Wye Oak….I also have some pics but haven’t gone through them yet. ALSO: I spoke with Seth yesterday while getting my wristband and he said that Luke from fireflies’ new band (Rod & Martha Stewart) had to cancel their show Saturday at Mike & Molly’s.
