By now, you’ve probably already seen the nude computerized collage explosion that is of Montreal’s new album cover. But before you’re distracted by its glorious images — the inferable campsite orgy! the modern dancers leaping and jumping! the sad, self-conscious, sickly girl! — you should definitely take the time to do a pre-tour warmup. You may have heard that Ahmed Gallab is joining the band, but who is this silly new member?
He was the fantastic drummer who played with Caribou when they were visiting Champaign! And while my highly critical opinions are just my own and highly critical, here’s an excerpt from the show’s review:
“The drummer was fantastic, but it took me almost a full 24 hours until I remembered that he was a replacement for the actual one who recently broke his wrist. I can’t judge a drummer I’ve never seen, but if they steal this guy away for keeps, I’d wholly understand. Draped in flashing lights that changed patterns and color schemes on each song (I now understand why Daniel Snaith, the man behind Caribou was on LSD when he came up with band’s name), they were better than I was expecting, most notably when Snaith joined in on drums.“
Oh yes. See for yourself by checking out the 4/12/08 review of Caribou at the Courtyard Cafe, or get yee on the YouTubes and see what he’s all about:
As if we needed another reason to love of Montreal. Sigh. For tour dates and more news, check out the top post on Polyvinyl Records‘ newly designed website.
